Wednesday

Creativity is at its lowest on hump day, ergo the unoriginal title of today's entry. Speaking of unoriginal, I am linking to Smashing Magazine, who manage to be creative even on Wednesday, for today's content. They've got a bunch of items that will make you happier, or think you are happier, because everyone knows things don't make you happy, heh. My favorite is the cell phone adapter above. I hate cell phones. They are small, and ring at the wrong time at the wrong volume at the wrong places and make my el rides intolerable because it is hard to work on my novel with the guy next to me screaming into his phone. But most of all you can't stick them between your ear and shoulder. You may say, get a headset but then you've got things sticking in your ear, which is unpleasant, or everyone says Eh What? I can't hear you and then you have to scream I'M USING A HEADSET! and no one on the el can work on their novel with you screaming into your headset. But here, a old receiver adapter for the cell phone and—happy.

You Say Gummy, I Say Yummy

Today's blog was supposed to be about bookmarking with del.icio.us but I was sidetracked by something even more delicious: gummi bear inspired art. I came across Jason Freeny (above) quite by accident, and I must say my life is the better for it. Jason creates art that can quite literally described as eye candy. You can buy a 12" x 12" print of Anatomie Gummi Bär for a mere $59.

If you are the more three-dimensional type, perhaps I can interest you in a gummi bear rug. This one's not for sale sadly, but you can view YaYa Chou's other gummi bear sculptures at galleryrevisited. The blog includes a convincing plea not to lacquer gummis and an argument that the green gummi is not as vibrant as it once was. At first I thought she meant the green gummis you buy in the store are not as vibrant as they once were but she was referring the green gummis in her art fading over time.

Flickr Commons

Flickr, The Library of Congress, The Smithsonian Institution, The Brooklyn Museum , The Powerhouse Museum, George Eastman House and Bibliothèque de Toulouse have joined together at
Flickr Commons, a photo collection with no known copyright restrictions—allowing me to add a little copy to the Smithsonian photo above and not having to answer to a soul about it.

The Joy of the Bag

For years, I dreamed of a custom made bag with a pocket for each thing I carry: glasses, phone, address book, iPod, wallet, address book, appointment book, pen, pencil etc. Thanks to Cinnamon Cooper, custom bag maker extraordinaire and overall decent person, that dream is realized, and it was surprisingly inexpensive.

I'm now an evangelist for the custom made bag for every one. This just may be the key to happiness. Keys? Check. Make up? Check. Bike light? Check. I've probably gained weight from not searching car, home, garage, yard, pockets and old bag for my keys alone. If you've been thinking about doing it, take the plunge. Call Cinnamon.

TOP: I got to pick the cloth, natch. Cinnamon vigilantly tracked down that hard-to-find vintage pattern for the stripe and lining. MIDDLE: There's that pattern lining the interior. Interior includes a velcroed pocket for wallet and a tabbed pocket for iPod, among others. BOTTOM: Under flap storage for business card, pen, pencil, glasses, phone. Perfect.
